When the commander-in-chief of a nation finds it necessary to order employees of the government or agencies of the government to do things that would technically break the law, he has to be able to declare it legal for them to do that.

Stich and Russell: Disavow

Three Boner image: The coveted three boner is awarded to works that set a new standard for journalistic integrity, laying bare just how badly our government is humping us.

Stich, Rodney and Russell, T. Conan (1995) Disavow: A CIA Saga of Betrayal. Reno, NV, Hallmark Publishers, 392 pp.

disavow

When the CIA came calling, college student Ron Rewald took the bait, and was employed to illegally spy on radical student groups during the Vietnam War. Service to one’s country is a noble goal, but what happens when you give everything to your country and that country cuts you and your family loose at the first sign of trouble? This book details the story of Ron Rewald and family. Rewald was positioned as CEO of Bishop, Baldwin, Rewald, Dillingham and Wong, a CIA proprietary in Hawaii designed to snare money and info in the Far East. But when a reporter blew his cover, the CIA disavowed any knowledge of the operation, sending Rewald to jail and leaving his family fatherless and penniless. Rewald was released from jail after serving over ten years. This is his story, one which we expect will not be used by Agency recruiters on college campuses any time soon.
